Drinking Chocolate Cacaos
These drinking chocolates are made from raw cacao grown traditionally as undergrowth in the protection of the shady Amazon rainforest. Cacao grown this way does not produce as much crop as that grown in sunny fields but remains part of a complex agroforestry that contributes to the Amazon ecological system and does not degrade it. This raw cacao is blended together with raw dark chocolate, also well known for its anti-oxidant properties. It is then sweetened with coconut sugar and seasoned with sea salt.
While studies on chocolate have shown it has many health benefits, the chocolate referred to is not the sort found in the sweet section of your supermarket. The cocoa powder used to make chocolate does not have the health benefits of the live enzymes and high levels of anti-oxidants that is present in raw cacao. Raw cacao is made by cold-pressing un-roasted cocoa beans, which retains beneficial live enzymes and removes fat (cacao butter) . Whereas, cocoa powder is made from beans that are roasted at high temperatures, killing off most of the beneficial enzymes and lowering the nutritional value.
The health benefits of raw cacao have been documented to lower insulin resistance, protect the nervous system, reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and stroke, reduce blood pressure, slow the aging process, guard against free radical toxins, and boost your mood. Can you think of better reasons to choose this raw cacao based drinking chocolate over ordinary drinking chocolates based on roasted cocoa powder ? We can't, and with such a delicious result, who could ask for more ? Can be made with hot milk or a blend of hot milk and water.
